ACT Now! Black Mental Health and Wellness Annual National Conference

The ACT Now! Black Mental Health and Wellness Annual National Conference is an annual event conceived in 2023. The conference is part of the Amandla Olwazi project with the aim of generating opportunities for Afrocentric knowledge sharing and gathering, knowledge mobilization, and networking while centering on Black mental health in Canada.

The first conference engaged over 260 people from seven provinces and one territory from over 50 organizations. Based on the participants’ recommendations and the unique experience of how the event spoke to who they are as Black people, the conference participants and TAIBU’s stakeholders called for the conference to be held annually.

Advancing Afrocentric Mental Health for Black Canadians

Building Knowledge and Collaboration

Making Afrocentric approach its centric point, and the existing networking its foundation, the ACT Now! Black Mental Health and Wellness Annual National Conference generates new knowledge, resources, and tools around the mental health of Black Canadians. It builds the capacity of organizations and individuals toward sustainable efforts of addressing Black Mental Health and well-being and systemic racism.

The conference is an inclusive and safe space. It engages diverse community members including members of the Black communities, Black leaders, Black elders, researchers, academicians, students, youth, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomers, volunteers, Francophone, interfaith communities, and the mainstream organizations and institutions from the healthcare, social services sector, and grassroots organizations.
